I got this in the mail today. Its plastic for a Prusa Mendel that I have been working on. The PLA plastic is made from Corn and is biodegradable and produced entirely in the USA. This means that anything that I make with it can have the USA label as well. Thanks UltiMachine for keeping it real and making your PLA in the USA!
Just goes to show you that all that glitters is not gold. Or just because its Made In the USA its not automatically a great thing. Don’t get me wrong, I am still glad this didn’t ship from China as it adds even more embodied energy but still this article in the Smithsonian suggest that PLA, in the end, may not be all that “GREEN”.
